My Story
At some point during my 4 year journey of seeking God and coming to find that His name was Jesus, I went to church.
Well, sort of.
My best friend at the time, who was Christian, told me she’d received a prophetic word - a word from God - at church.
God had been revealing himself to me in different ways, and I had been seeking Him in every way I knew how; so when I heard that you could just walk into this church and get a word directly from God.. I was like, yo.. Sign me up.
I went to the next prophetic event, and when it got to my turn, I was directed towards an elderly couple standing in the centre of the room.
They knew nothing about me apart from my name.
They had no idea I wasn’t a Christian.
They began to pray.
When the man opened his mouth, the Holy Spirit spoke. I will never forget what he said:
“I am going to give you a heart for those who want to know the truth about how I really am, based on how I show up in your life, rather than how religion has taught throughout the ages.”
Tears started falling, as often happens when I hear God speak.
I felt so seen.
I knew this was Him.
It was at least another year or two of seeking and finding until I came to the full revelation of who God is, accepted Him and was born again, alone in my room, just me and a bible.
It's been a wild ride since then; often painful, often excruciatingly lonely; but through it all, Jesus has been with me; revealing Himself to me in ways that only He can, bringing me into the unshakeable intimacy that comes only through knowing Him.
I have found that more than anything, He wants to know me. He died, so that He could be with me. It is my reasonable service - the only reasonable response - to lay my life down as an offering, to allow Him to search me and know me, that He would get to receive everything that He paid for.
Sometimes I write, sometimes I speak, sometimes I sing, sometimes I design clothes.
In everything that I do and share, my heart is to express myself - that all I am may be visible, seen and known unafraid. That I may shine as a light that was never meant to be hidden, living in the freedom for which Christ has paid the ultimate price to set me free.
My hope is that my freedom, my courage, and my vulnerability would be contagious - that as you read or listen, you would be set free to truly let yourself be known by the one who - above all else - longs to know you, just as you are.
Let it be so, Lord.
